UNEXPECTED VISITOR ON A CONSTRUCTION SITE
A social housing renovation site in Berchem-Sainte-Agathe recently became the scene of a remarkable rescue operation. Police alerted the Animal Disaster Team (ADT) after a fox was discovered trapped inside a building where asbestos removal was underway. Thanks to the quick response of the construction workers and the ADT, the fox was safely rescued.
A dangerous hiding place
The fox had found its way beneath the floor of a completely sealed-off area on the site. The rescue was particularly complex due to the potential presence of asbestos. Safety was therefore the team's top priority. Before entering the building, the ADT rescuers had to put on full protective equipment.
Work stopped to save the fox
The construction workers did not hesitate for a second and immediately suspended all renovation work, allowing the ADT team to carry out the rescue safely and without interruption.
Once the area had been secured and the team was properly equipped, the rescue operation could begin. The fox was quickly located and safely captured.
A happy ending
After a thorough assessment of the situation and of the asbestos concentration in the room, there was reassuring news: the fox had not been exposed to asbestos. The animal was also found to be in excellent health.
Shortly after the rescue, the fox was released back into a suitable natural habitat, where it could safely return to the wild.
