Storm Kirk: Intervention by the Animal Disaster Team to Rescue Animals in Couvin
Following severe flooding caused by Storm Kirk, the Animal Disaster Team (ADT) was quickly mobilized to assist animals in distress in Couvin. On Wednesday night, our specialized emergency response team was deployed to rescue animals in danger, responding to the call from local authorities.
First Intervention: Rescue of Goats and a Buck
On Wednesday evening, we were called by the firefighters after they rescued two goats and a buck trapped by rising waters. These animals were quickly taken care of by our teams and transported to a safe location to ensure their safety and well-being.
Helicopter Evacuation
On Thursday morning, a helicopter evacuation operation was conducted. Faced with currents too strong for a ground evacuation, families and their animals were evacuated to safe zones. Our teams took charge of the animals upon their arrival, ensuring their safety.
Water Rescue of Two Dogs
Later on Thursday, two dogs trapped in the floodwaters required additional intervention. Our aquatic rescue specialists, in collaboration with Dinaphi firefighters, stepped in to evacuate them. After being submerged up to three-quarters of their bodies, the two dogs were safely transported to the Sans Collier shelter, where they wait for their owners.
We would like to warmly thank the Dinaphi Rescue Zone firefighters, the emergency services, and the local authorities for their valuable collaboration in these rescue operations. Thanks to this collective mobilization, many animals were saved from critical situations.
