ROE DEER SEVERELY INJURED IN DOG ATTACK IN ASSE
Our teams were called to an emergency in a private garden, alongside the SOS Wilde Dieren rescue centre and the municipality of Asse. A homeowner heard his dog barking unusually, immediately intervened and called it back, but the dog had already attacked a young roe deer. In a panic, the deer tried to escape by jumping against the garden fence. When rescuers arrived, they managed to safely capture and restrain the frightened animal.
An initial medical examination quickly revealed the severity of the injuries. The dog bites had caused extensive damage, including a deep wound penetrating the abdominal cavity. The deer was rushed for emergency treatment, but the damage to its internal organs and severe blood loss proved too extensive. Sadly, the rescuers had no choice but to euthanise the animal to prevent further suffering.
This tragic incident highlights how life-threatening injuries can occur in a matter of seconds. We urge everyone to take precautions when wild animals enter their gardens. If a wild animal becomes trapped in your garden and cannot find its way out, keep pets at a safe distance and contact the relevant authorities immediately.
