A few days ago, an attentive passerby made an unusual discovery in the stunning setting of the Abbey of Villers-la-Ville: a young Eurasian eagle owl (Bubo bubo) was found on the ground, unable to fly. The bird was clearly in distress and required urgent help.

The Animal Disaster Team (ADT) was alerted immediately and rushed to the scene. Our trained wildlife rescue volunteers took every precaution to secure the area and gently capture the owl—avoiding any further stress or injury.

The bird of prey was then transferred to CREAVES in Perwez, a center specializing in the rehabilitation of wild animals. There, caregivers diagnosed a significant wound on the owl’s wing. His condition required prompt treatment and specialized veterinary care.

The young owl is currently recovering in an aviary, under ideal conditions for healing.

The goal is clear: to help this majestic nocturnal raptor regain full physical strength—and above all, his freedom. As soon as he’s ready, he will be released back into the wild, in a habitat suited to his natural needs.
