RESCUE IN NIVELLES: INJURED STORK SAVED ALONG A MAJOR ROAD

An injured stork spotted in a dangerous location

Following a call from Birds Bay, ADT was asked to intervene in Nivelles, near the southern ring road close to the shopping area.

An injured stork had been spotted along a busy road in an area heavily exposed to traffic. The situation posed an immediate danger not only to the bird but also to road users.

A rapid and safe intervention

ADT teams immediately travelled to the scene to secure the animal.

During the operation, police officers were present to manage traffic and secure the area, allowing rescuers to work safely despite the heavy flow of vehicles.

A serious injury identified on site

As the teams approached the bird, they discovered a significant fracture to one of its wings.

To prevent the injury from worsening, the stork was carefully restrained and stabilised before transport. This procedure helped minimise movement and reduce the risk of further damage.

Transfer to a specialised wildlife centre

Once secured, the stork was transferred to Birds Bay, where it will be examined, treated and monitored by professionals specialised in wildlife rehabilitation.

The goal is to give the bird every possible chance of recovery and, if its condition allows, an eventual return to the wild.

A rescue made possible through cooperation
