Following a report received through the 112 emergency dispatch centre, our volunteer team was urgently deployed to secure an injured heron before the end of the school day. Upon arrival, the bird was nowhere to be seen. After a brief search, however, the heron was located in a nearby garden, suffering from what appeared to be a broken wing. Thanks to a swift and careful approach, the team was able to safely capture the bird without causing additional stress or injury.

After receiving initial care on site, the heron was transported for urgent medical treatment to the veterinarian working with the Wildlife Rescue Centre (VOC) in Merelbeke.

We sincerely hope the bird will make a full recovery and, once fit enough, be released back into the wild in Deerlijk, where it belongs.
