Rapid response for an injured heron

ADT was called to assist a heron in distress that had been spotted along a waterway.

Upon arrival, rescuers found that the bird had a broken wing. The injury prevented it from escaping and left it particularly vulnerable to the dangers of its surroundings.

A rapid intervention was essential to prevent its condition from worsening.

Appropriate care in the field

ADT teams immediately implemented a safe rescue operation adapted to the behaviour of a wild bird.

A specific restraint technique was used on site to limit the heron’s movements and prevent further injury during handling.

Thanks to a calm, professional and respectful approach, the bird was safely secured without any additional complications.

Transfer to the CREAVES of Perwez

Once safely secured, the heron was transported to the CREAVES wildlife rescue centre in Perwez.

The bird is now receiving specialised care and treatment to support its recovery and give it the best possible chance of returning to the wild.
