ONE NIGHT TO TRY TO SAVE SCRATCH, A CAT WAS LEFT FOR DEAD AFTER A CAR ACCIDENT

On Monday evening, our teams were called in by the Ardennes-Brabant police zone, who had discovered a cat following a car accident.
The cat, an unnamed gray Persian, was quickly christened “Scratch” by our teams. When rescuers arrived on the scene, Scratch was lying at the bottom of a ravine, unable to move. Without wasting any time, they picked him up and rushed him to the nearest vet.
The diagnosis was grim: Scratch was in a state of severe hypothermia, having probably spent several days in the ravine. His life was in danger. The initial search for his owner, via microchip, was unsuccessful, as Scratch had not been identified.
To save him, the vets placed him in an oxygen crate equipped with a heating system. Every effort was made, with the hope of recovery still present.
But the situation took a dramatic turn. In the early hours of the morning, the vets reported a major complication: Scratch was in septic shock, a consequence of his critical condition. Despite all the care he had received, his body was unable to cope. Given his distress, it was decided to put him out of his misery to avoid prolonged agony.
It was with a heavy heart that the rescue teams experienced this sad reality. Our teams do their utmost to rescue all the animals, but sometimes, despite our best efforts, the battle is lost. These moments are heartbreaking for everyone involved.
Scratch remains a mystery. His family, if he had one, remains unknown. Anyone recognizing this cat is invited to contact our services.
