Lady the emu: the runaway strikes again!
Lady the emu: the runaway strikes again!
A few months ago, our Animal Disaster Team (ADT) was called in by the police for a rather unusual mission: tracking down an emu on the loose, spotted dangerously close to a highway. The feathered adventurer, named Lady, gave our team quite the challenge before she could be secured and safely returned to her field.
But this weekend… Lady did it again!
Still as curious and independent as ever, she managed to escape once more to explore the surroundings. Thankfully, the authorities alerted us quickly, and before you could say “runaway,” our volunteers were on the scene and ready to act.
Thanks to our calm, animal-friendly approach, Lady was gently and safely caught without stress and brought home in good health. Once back on-site, our team carried out a thorough check of her enclosure to find and secure the escape route.
At ADT, every intervention is a chance to raise awareness and prevent future incidents. Our volunteers supported Lady’s caretakers in putting long-term solutions in place to reinforce the fencing and stop any future getaways.
As unusual as this operation may have been, it perfectly illustrates the importance of teamwork between our teams, local authorities, and animal guardians. A big thank-you to all the dedicated volunteers for their professionalism and swift response, and to the police for their continued trust.
