EMERGENCY RESCUE IN TUBIZE: 31-YEAR-OLD MARE LAURA BACK ON HER FEET

An emergency intervention for an elderly mare in distress

On Sunday, April 26, ADT teams were mobilised in Tubize to assist Laura, a 31-year-old mare.

Weakened by age, blind in one eye and suffering from arthritis in her hind legs, Laura had lain down and was unable to get back up on her own.

Given the serious risks associated with prolonged immobility in horses, a rapid intervention was essential.

Close collaboration with the veterinarian

Upon arrival, ADT teams worked closely with the veterinarian on site to implement a rescue plan adapted to Laura’s condition.

Helping her back to her feet proved particularly delicate. As it was unclear how long she had been lying down, her limbs had become stiff and weakened.

Through gradual stimulation and precise coordination between the rescuers and the veterinarian, Laura slowly regained enough strength to attempt standing again.

A remarkable mare despite the challenges

Throughout the intervention, Laura remained exceptionally calm, gentle and cooperative despite her visual impairment and the difficult circumstances.

Her attitude allowed the teams to work under the best possible conditions, ensuring her safety and comfort throughout the rescue.

Laura is doing well today

Thanks to the rapid mobilisation of the teams and the coordinated work carried out on site, Laura was successfully helped back onto her feet.

Today, she is doing well and has been able to return to her familiar environment in good conditions.
