Emergency rescue on the Semois: our water rescue team takes to the river to save a young swan trapped by a fishing hook

On Sunday evening, our water rescue specialists responded to an emergency on the Semois River in Bièvre to assist a young swan in severe distress.

Still a juvenile, the bird had swallowed a fishing hook that had become deeply lodged in its throat. 🎣

Carefully making their way through the current, our teams managed, despite challenging conditions, to safely capture the swan in order to provide it with the best possible care. Unfortunately, the hook was embedded too deeply to be removed on site.

The swan was immediately transferred to the CREAVES in Perwez for urgent treatment.

Following examination, it appears that surgery will most likely be required to remove the hook and give the bird a genuine chance of survival.

We sincerely hope that this young swan will overcome this ordeal and, once fully recovered, be able to return to the wild and reclaim its place on the river.
