Criminal act: roe deer shot with a crossbow in Colfontaine

The Animal Disaster Team (ADT) was confronted with a deeply shocking and unacceptable situation in Colfontaine.

Alerted by a neighbour, our volunteers discovered, with horror, a roe deer severely injured by a crossbow bolt.

Following initial inquiries, it appears that this barbaric act may have been committed by a local resident living on the edge of the forest, reportedly angered by the animal’s presence in his garden. According to his own words, the roe deer was “annoying his dog” and he allegedly decided to “settle the matter himself”.

Such a justification is unacceptable. This vile, gratuitous and cruel act must be condemned in the strongest possible terms.

Wild animals do not belong to those who refuse to tolerate their presence. Choosing to live near the countryside or woodland means accepting the responsibility to coexist respectfully with nature.

The severely injured roe deer was immediately taken into care by our teams. It is currently receiving the best possible veterinary treatment through the CREAVES network and spent the night at the Perwez centre.

A complaint will be filed and an investigation has now been opened by the competent authorities.

We call for public awareness and unanimous condemnation of such acts of cruelty.
