BARN OWL RESCUED FROM CHIMNEY IN SINT-LAUREINS-BERCHEM
Our teams recently responded to a call for assistance from VOC SOS Wilde Dieren in Geraardsbergen. An animal had been trapped inside a chimney in Sint-Laureins-Berchem for several days. Upon arrival, the rescuers faced a difficult task: the chimney flue had a bend in it, making it impossible to see the animal. They had to rely entirely on their sense of touch to locate the animal and safely free it from its precarious position.
After a challenging rescue operation, the team members successfully managed to retrieve a barn owl from the chimney. The bird had become severely weakened after spending several days trapped in the confined space. It was immediately taken to the VOC SOS Wilde Dieren rescue centre, where it received the urgent medical care and attention it needed.
At the rescue centre, the owl made a full recovery thanks to a thorough cleaning, proper nutrition and a few days of rest. Once it had regained its strength, the bird was released back into its natural habitat. A successful rescue mission with a wonderful ending.
