AROUND FIFTY ANIMALS TAKEN INTO CARE AFTER THEIR OWNER’S DEATH

Complex situation and large-scale response

Following the death of their owner, nearly fifty animals were left without a care solution. The Walloon Brabant fire brigade called on ADT to support the emergency services and police. On site, the teams encountered an exceptional and complex mix of dogs, cats, goats, a pony, a pig, chickens, geese, parrots, zebra finches, pigeons and other birds. Given the large number and diversity of animals, a decisive and coordinated response was immediately required.

Signs of neglect discovered

In addition to the logistical challenge, several animals also showed clear signs of neglect. Some goats were severely underweight, while several birds were being kept in noticeably small cages. The pig also had extremely overgrown hooves, making it barely able to move. To deal with all these issues, the teams worked tirelessly for almost ten hours to bring every animal to safety.

Safe transfer and care

Thanks to close cooperation and the commitment of all the services involved and specialised rescue centres, ADT succeeded in finding a suitable place for each animal. All of them were eventually transferred safely to care facilities fully adapted to their species and specific needs.

This intensive intervention once again highlights the importance of rapid coordination in emergency situations.
